Video: Teachers Share How Senority Based Layoffs Do Not Help Students

Do you remember your favorite teachers?

Chances are they made an incredible impact on your life. When children are taught by an effective teacher three years in a row it can dramatically change their life trajectories. So, one would think that we would do everything possible to ensure that all kids have access to the best teachers. Unfortunately this is not the case.

We met some great teachers who were let go because their state, like most states, conducts layoffs based on seniority rather than teacher performance. Hear their heartbreaking stories about the impact this had on their students. Think about the hundreds of kids they may have reached had their careers continued and you’ll agree the policy of seniority-based layoffs must end.
